Joe Wiebe a.k.a ‘the Thirsty Writer’ has
published a book called ‘Craft Beer Revolution’ that is a must-read for any
serious British Columbia craft beer enthusiast, or for anyone curious to
know a bit about the origins, history, and current state of craft beer in the
province.
With an engaging style, Joe, who has been a fan of B.C. craft beer for
about 20 years and has been a serious beer writer for the last 5 years or so, takes
us on an odyssey around the province by region, stopping in at all the craft
breweries and providing each brewery’s history and product highlights,
as well as noteworthy beers in each region.
What really made the book stand out for me,
though, was the array of interesting side-bars along the way, featuring key
characters in the development of the industry, evolving trends, prime drinking spots,
and general craft beer-related observations and opinions. These additional
pieces make this a true “Insider’s Guide”.
It’s a great read and a handy reference,
highly recommended. You can find it at your local book store or Amazon, but if
you order it right from the Craft Beer Revolution site, you can get an autographed copy. Bonus!
The only small complaint I have is that the British Columbia Beer Guide
is not included in the list of ‘Blogs and Websites’. Maybe I’ll make the grade
for the next edition…which, with the industry growing the way it is now, will
surely be needed within another couple of years. :)
